High performance cooling and temperature-controlled water systems need to be:

  •  Low in harmful salts (see our page on Water treatment technology)
  • Low in dissolved gases (see our page on degassing)
  • No particles > 5µm, sometimes even 1µm (see our page on Filtration)
  • Able to prevent corrosion by immediately passivating metal surfaces
  • Maintain a near sterile environment to prevent bacterial induced corrosion
  •  Keep a pH level that is bad for bacteria, and slows or stops metal corrosion
  • Maintain the corrosion protection from chilled water right up to high temperature water above 100°C and more.

We purposely differ from some thoughts in the industry that removing oxygen will solve all problems. Even though this idea has infiltrated some standards in Germany, it is not representing the world view of preventing corrosion. Furthermore, some technologies used to remove oxygen are fraught with risks in the production context, where just one day of use, where the system is requiring servicing could lead to the release of harmful ions and rapid corrosion. Additionally, we find the cost of maintaining such systems too high for manufacturers to be practical. There is so much more to corrosion.

For this reason, the mainstay of our corrosion protection chemicals is based on the strong anodic, alkaline types, that are tolerant of low levels of oxygen that occur through general use and maintenance of water systems, plus the ability to immediately passivate and protect surfaces that have lost their protection. We use them to success in both hermetic and open systems. These methods have proven their worth over decades of use and have far lower running costs than other methods on the market.

  • EMC KS20 – our strong anodic, alkaline corrosion protection chemical – very concentrated, high temperature stable – great for all purposes. Especially good in high temperature temp. control.
  • EMC KS19 – same core qualities as KS20, just a different concentration to achieve different regulatory goals once the system has been dosed
  • EMC KS21 – same core qualities as KS20 with more dispersants added to help dirtier circuits clean themselves
  • EMC MB02 – our Biocide for use in both cooling towers and cooling circuits
  • EMC KS66 – our additive to boost copper protection
  • Sodium Hydroxide – in 10 and 45% concentration – to help adjust the pH
  • EMC 37 Öltrans - our cleaning solution, for cleaning oiled circuits and those with extreme bio contamination
